The Power of Six: Pittacus Lore

“The Power of Six” is a very good sequel to the famous book and movie “I am Number 4″. In this novel the author not only follows numbers 4 and 6 but also number 7 who  is hiding in a secluded area in Spain. This novel offers much more action compared to “I am Number 4″ because now their identity is revealed and they are fighting for their lives basically every day on Earth.

Recommendation:

I would recommend this novel to anyone who has read “I am Number 4″ and enjoyed it. I wo
uld also recommend this to people who are interested in aliens and science fiction.

Held by Edeet Raval – Reviewed by Mckenna

HELD by Edeet RavelThe story “Held” by Edeet Ravel is truly amazing. Chloe Mills was kidnapped while on vacation in Greece and finds herself held for victim release in a warehouse. She is well fed, well cared for, but soon loses sight of what is real and what is a lie. Back home in America, however, her mum and best friend are rallying for her release. I couldn`t put this book down. The story was suspenseful and gripping; written as though the author has firsthand experience with this. This story would appeal to girls and is very well written.

CHARLIE'S KEY by Rob MillsIn the book “Charlie`s Key“ by Rob Mills, a boy named Charlie is orphaned when his father is killed in a car accident. Before his father died,Charlie obtained a key from him. He knew that this small key had to be hidden.

Charlie soon discovers that an uncle who has recently been released from jail wants the key. Hush Hush: Becca Fitzpatrick – Recommended by Colton

Hush Hush takes place in a small rainy town called Coldwater, near Portland Oregon. Nora Grey meets a strangely captivating character named Patch Cipriano. He is a fallen angel.

Although Nora realizes that Patch is dangerous she can’t help but be drawn towards him, attempting to slowly uncover his mystery. Unfortunately by doing this she puts her life in danger,as well as the lives of people around her.

This book is fast paced and keeps you on edge at all times. The dark mystery behind it draws you in and keeps you reading until the last page.  Becca Fitzpatrick’s novel combines both romance and riveting action, making it a prime read for almost anyone. Hush Hush is book number one in the series, followed by Crescendo and Silence.  The fourth and final book is expected to be released shortly.

Recommendation:

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fast paced action thrillers and fiction novels mixed with a bit of romance like in the Twilight series and The Hunger Games.

DREAMFIRE by Nicole Luiken – Recommended by Mckenna

In DREAMFIRE, by Nicole Luiken, Brianne is a different seventeen-year-old girl. She is in a new town, with her dad gone trying to stop a forestfire; and she just left a devastating past back in Edmonton. While the memory of her arrest haunts her, she has even more things to worry about. When her first “true dream” in a few months comes to her during Science class, she knows danger is around the corner. This book is action-packed, with some romance and imaginative detail.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes books with suspense and mystery. The writing style is similar to Margaret Peterson Haddix, too. I would rate this a 8/10. A good read, definately!

Alex Rider: Eagle Strike

Title: Alex Rider: Eagle Strike

By: Anthony Horowitz

Review:

On the outside, Alex Rider is your average 14-year-old British school boy, nothing more than a kid. However in secret, he works with one of Britain’s secret security agency: MI6. After his uncle’s death (who was a MI6 agent himself), MI6 recruited Alex as one of their agents and send him on special assignments. From the home-front to the frontier, Alex Rider is plunged into a world of spies and evil masterminds.

In Eagle Strike, Alex must face an unsuspecting foe, an enemy who is blessed by many as a peace activist. His name is Damian Cray. Millions adore him,  and so famous that the President of the United States will interrupt his vacation to visit him. However, what he has done to the world wasn’t enough and the trouble began when Alex Rider found out Damian Cray’s plan for “world peace.” A plan that will involve the killing of millions of people in collateral damage. In the past, Alex always has the support from MI6. This time, they refuse the mission. Can one school boy convince the world that the most famous person in the world has plans that will shake the world apart?

Recommendation:

For fans of the James Bond series, this is the book for you! This novel has the action-pack scenes like a movie… except in a book and with a teen super spy! The cliff-hangers and suspense at the end of each chapter can keep you wondering: how will Alex get out of this one?

A Game of Thrones: George R. R. Martin

Title: A Game of Thrones

By George R. R. Martin

Review:

The story takes place in an imaginary land very similar to feudal Europe. It used to be a land full of mystery and magic, but now all that is dwindling. Unlike other medieval fantasies that are now out, this book (or series) has a different flavor to it, if you will. It does have magic and war, but in lower amounts. Instead it is almost like a political thriller/adventure than an all out action novel. This is part of what makes this book unique. To make things more interesting, seasons in this land can last for many months, even years. You enter the book in a country approaching a very long winter, and in order to keep northern attackers out, the king is pressured to build a large wall of ice. George R.R. Martin has a flare for unusual plots with intricate twists that keep you reading for a very, very long time. In my personal opinion, this is a very good book.

Recommendation:

I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, political thrillers, drama and action. It is a good read for any lover of books.

Georges Laraque: The Story of the NHL’s Unluckiest Tough Guy

Title: Georges Laraque: The Story of the NHL’s Unluckiest Tough Guy

By: Georges Laraque

Review:

This autobiography was a truly inspirational story. The story begins when Georges was a Haitan child growing up in Quebec, he excels at all sports but is attached to hockey. The only problem with Georges playing hockey is that he, being Haitan, has a black skin colour and he experienced racism due to the fact that “black” people “do not play hockey”. Aside from the pressure of the racist parents, Georges’ dad is a hard-hearted man and does not take kindly to the racism. Many times he unleashes his anger, making it even more difficult for Georges to play hockey.  Throughout the book Georges fights his way through obstacles  and finally makes it to the NHL.

Recommendation:

Although this book revolves around the life of a hockey player who plays in the NHL I would highly recommend this book, not just for hockey fans, because of how inspirational this man’s life was. Despite racism, there arefeats of strength and amazing accomplishments.  This is truly a great biography.
